What Is It?
Docosahexaenoic acid, DHA for short, is a long chain omega-3 fatty acid and accounts for the majority of omega-3 fats found in the brain and retina. Alpha linolenic Acid (ALA), an omega-3 fat found in flax, walnuts, chia seeds and other plants, can be converted to DHA but, humans are deficient in the enzyme which catalyzes this reaction making this process highly inefficient for most people. The best method for ensuring healthy levels of DHA is to consume fish or algae oil which provides DHA that has already been pre- converted from ALA by the microalgae.
What Does It Do?
Primary Uses: A number of studies have shown the importance of DHA in brain and eye development, especially during the last trimester of pregnancy and in the first 6 months of life. In fact, DHA is a major component of breast milk, indicating its importance in the healthy development of an infant. Since DHA is a major structural component of brain and retinal cells, it is necessary for optimizing visual and cognitive function. DHA deficiency in newborns has been associated with poor learning capacity and visual acuity.
Secondary Uses: In adults, studies show that DHA is important for cognitive, neurological, mental and eye health. DHA is also a major component of sperm cells and ensures their normal structure and function.
Who Should Take It?
Vsoftgel™ DHA is ideal for pregnant women who want the benefit s of supplementing with high dose DHA on their newborn but want to avoid seafood because they follow a plant based lifestyle or are concerned about heavy metal toxicity in fish. Individuals who are using omega-3 supplements with low dose EPA and DHA should also consider supplementing with additional DHA to meet their requirements of both EPA and DHA as DHA can be converted to EPA when needed.
Why Vsoftgel™ ?
Manufactured with a patent pending technology, Vsoftgels™ offer superior advantages that vegans/vegetarians can now benefit from. One of the biggest advantages of offering nutrients in a softgel is that softgels allow for better bioavailability of active ingredients. Inside a softgel, fat soluble nutrients such as DHA can be suspended in an oil base which optimizes their potential for absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Vsoftgels™ DHA is also sourced from microalgae oil and provides a high dose of the active, converted form of DHA for optimal efficacy. Vsoftgels™ offers these benefits to suit every lifestyle.
