'f02_body2' => 'Latin: Agaricus blazei <br> Japanese: Himematsutake <br> Common Name: Royal Sun Agaricus <br> <br> Agaricus blazei is the only medicinal mushroom used in the U.S. from the family Agaricaceae, the same family that contains the edible mushroom most commonly purchased in the U.S., the " button mushroom " (Agaricus bisporus). Native to the tropics of Brazil, it grows in fields and pastures, fruits in the spring, with the mushrooms commonly found fruiting in clumps. The fruit bodies are 3-5 inches in height, beige to brown in color, with a scaling pattern of darker brown coloration appearing on the surface of the mushroom caps. <br> <br> Agaricus blazei was originally found in Brazil and has a long history as a folk remedy in those areas where it was originally discovered. Although currently popular in China, Korea and Japan, Agaricus blazei has no history of use in Traditional East Asian Medicine. <br> <br> Research, begun in the 1990s, has also shown that Agaricus contains a unique beta 1-6 linkage and contains the highest levels of beta glucan yet found in a medicinal mushroom. <br> <br> Clinical Research <br> The in-vitro research and animal studies both show significant immuno-modulating properties.* <br> <br> Extraction Information <br> Research has been done on water-soluble and alcohol-soluble fractions of the polysaccharides, all of which were isolated through a hot-water or hot-water/alcohol extraction process. The fruit bodies are 3-5 inches in height, beige to brown in color, with a scaling pattern of darker brown coloration appearing on the surface of the mushroom caps. <br> <br> Agaricus blazei was originally found in Brazil and has a long history as a folk remedy in those areas where it was originally discovered. Although currently popular in China, Korea and Japan, Agaricus blazei has no history of use in Traditional East Asian Medicine. <br> <br> Research, begun in the 1990s, has also shown that Agaricus contains a unique beta 1-6 linkage and contains the highest levels of beta glucan yet found in a medicinal mushroom. <br> <br> Clinical Research <br> The in-vitro research and animal studies both show significant immuno-modulating properties.* <br> <br> Extraction Information <br> Research has been done on water-soluble and alcohol-soluble fractions of the polysaccharides, all of which were isolated through a hot-water or hot-water/alcohol extraction process. As with the other medicinal mushrooms, the active compounds in Agaricus blazei, the polysaccharides, are internal structural components of the indigestible cell walls. Extraction with a heated aqueous solution is required to release these active compounds into a bio-available form.
