Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa) is the most important Chinese herb for disorders of the kidneys and adrenal glands. It is considered to be a longevity tonic, and one of the 50 fundamental herbs. It combats adrenal suppression caused by steroid hormones and has a similar tonic effect on the adrenal cortex as licorice but is safe in hypertension. It is useful in autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis, inflammation, adrenal exhaustion/stress, menopause, menstrual irregularities/PMS, asthma, urticaria, impotence, anemia, alopecia and other hormone deficiencies.
