Silymarin is a highly concentrated milk thistle extract that is traditionally used in Herbal Medicine as a hepatoprotectant, to support healthy liver functioning and relieve digestive disturbances. This highly active botanical protects the liver from free radical damage, supports glutathione concentrations and promotes superoxide dismutase activity. It helps to maintain liver cell health through a variety of mechanisms, including stimulating protein synthesis and promoting healthy cytokine balance. Milk thistle extract also supports liver function by increasing the activity of phase II detoxifying enzymes. Healthy liver function is also required for the complex process of fat metabolism. Improper fat digestion can lead to digestive disturbances including bloating, nausea, pain and fullness. Milk thistle helps to relieve dyspepsia, especially after overindulgence in food, by stimulating the production and secretion of bile acids.
