Atractylodes is used for indigestion, stomachache, bloating, fluid retention, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss due to cancer, fatigue and joint pain. In TCM, this herb is thought to dry dampness, strengthen the spleen or digestion and promote diuresis.

Dry herb 6-12 g daily up to 30 g. Herb extract should be 1320 mg daily.
Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding even though there is not enough evidence to show the contraindications. In TCM, Atractylodes can be used in miscarriage prevention and threatened abortion. Atractylodes may cause an allergic reaction in people who are sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Generally well tolerated. Drug interaction may exist although many sites indicate no interactions with drugs.
