In addition to its antiseptic and astringent actions, uva ursi may also help to flush out bacteria by promoting urination. It is indicated for uncomplicated cystitis yet not appropriate for kidney infections. Uva ursi works best when the urine is alkaline.

Average daily dose is 500 mg.
Avoid in pregnancy, lactation and children. Contraindicated in GI irritation and kidney disease. Generally well tolerated. Contains high amounts of tannins. Caution with long-term use. Avoid using uva ursi for more than one week or more than five times per year. Drug interactions may exist.
