Each capsule contains:
L-Phenylalanine 500 mg
L-phenylalanine (LPA) serves as a building block for proteins that are produced in the body. It can be converted to L-tyrosine and subsequently to L-dopa, norepinephrine and epinephrine. L-phenylalanine can also be converted to phenylethylamine, a substance that occurs naturally in the brain and appears to elevate mood.
60 capsules
1 serving (1 capsule) 1-2x daily or as directed. Some sources recommend taking it in the morning or at least on an empty stomach.
Drug interactions exist. Not to be used by patients with PKU, women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or breastfeeding, or with antidepressant drugs such as MAOIs or SSRIs. Generally well tolerated. Side effects include anxiety, restlessness and hyperactivity especially in children. At high dose, it can cause nausea, headaches and heartburn. At doses higher than 5g per day, phenylalanine becomes toxic and can damage the nerves.
