Each capsule contains:
Iron (from Heme Iron) 5 mg
Heme iron is a porcine polypeptide which is in essence the iron in hemoglobin without the protein as it is removed during digestion or processing. Heme iron has an increased bioavailability, and its absorption is unaffected by the foods we consume such as bran, phytates, caffeine and tannins. Heme iron is readily absorbed via specific heme receptors in the small intestine. Low stomach acid will not impair the absorption of this form of iron. This form of iron does not cause gastrointestinal irritation and constipation like other forms of iron often prescribed like iron sulfate. It can be taken with or without food.
