Cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid and an important structural and functional component of proteins and enzymes. It is built directly from L-methionine and is a component of Glutathione. It supports healthy hair, skin and nails as it helps produce collagen, which promotes proper elasticity and skin texture. L-cysteine supplementation elevates NAC. It is essential for T-cell production, immune system activation, anti-inflammatory activity and is important for the protection against various toxins.

Drug interactions may occur. Persons with cystinuria should avoid using l-cysteine as they can form cysteine gallstones from its use. Drink plenty of water. Possibly safe during pregnancy. Generally well tolerated.
